Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you.

Believe You Have Received

It is time to say, “Yes, Lord! I believe!”

WHEN THE LORD heals people and does His great works of grace, and you hear the report of salvations, do not be a cynic and say, “It’s too good to be true.” A cynic is a “habitual doubter.” Beware of becoming a cynic, for the promises of God are good, and they are true. Because of the New Covenant, we must stop saying the word “unbelievable” when great miracles and the wonderful gifts of God are discussed. Receive His promise and believe it. It is for you.

We can amass piles of doctrines concerning the New Covenant, but its greatest power is released by divine revelation. Pray for this revelation. Seek God to make this holy truth real. At the cross, God canceled the effects of the curse upon mankind, the prince of the world was judged, Satan was rendered powerless, and the sins of the world were atoned for.

You say, “If He did these things, why is the world in its sorry, present state?” Paul tells us that “we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12). Ultimately, all things shall be summed up in Christ, but today the church is the first partaker of the effects of the New Covenant.

It is for us to simply and persistently believe what God has said. Because of Jesus’ death, we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places; we have received all things pertaining to life and godliness; we have been created in the image of Him who created us, in holiness and righteousness. (See Ephesians 4:24.) Notice that all the things the Scriptures say about us are past tense. They have already been given us, and they have been given us, not because we deserved them, but through the greatness of God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice.

The more consumed we are with Jesus and what He has done for us, the less we get tangled up in our own unrighteousness. You cannot change yourself by looking at yourself. Listen to what Jesus taught about human nature and its relationship with Himself. He said:

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; that whoever believes may in Him have eternal life.

—JOHN 3:14–15

The people of Israel had sinned. They could not cure themselves. They were under the penalty of judgment for their murmuring and rebellion against God. The Lord told Moses to lift up a bronze serpent on a pole. The bronze serpent did not heal anyone until they looked away from themselves and gazed steadfastly upon the bronze serpent.

The pole upon which the bronze serpent was fastened must have been tall to enable all Israel—over three million people—to see it. Perhaps it was carried high throughout the camp.
